The Challenge

Awareness of the complex and interrelated environmental, economic and social problems in our world is increasing. The debate no longer focusses on whether change is necessary but rather on what kind of changes are necessary and how such changes can be carried out. Uncertainty, confusion and ambiguity about the meaning and means of sustainable development continues. Competing perspectives of those influencing or influenced by change tend to generate resistance and/or conflict. Traditional approaches for initiating change and managing conflict often mask fundamental values, blur important strategic distinctions, and narrow range of acceptable directions/solutions.
